Recently, SAT and ACT scores by school were released for the State of South Carolina. The ACT scores are lower than usual because now 100% of each school's student body is taking the test. This is the last year of the 2400 scale for the SAT (I believe), and with the aforementioned ACT the percentage of SAT takers seems to be going down.
SAT scores:
Percentage of students taking the test:
Riverside: 69%
Wade Hampton: 61%
J.L Mann: 61%
Greenville: 60%
Eastside: 59%
Mauldin: 57%
Travelers Rest: 51%
Southside: 47%
Greer: 46%
Hillcrest: 45%
Blue Ridge: 43%
Woodmont: 38%
Carolina: 38%
Berea: 34%
Charter Schools:
Greenville Tech Charter: 80%
Brashier Middle College Charter: 76%
Greer Middle College Charter: 68%
Charter Schools:
Greenville Tech Charter: 1577 (+19)
Greer Middle College Charter: 1559 (+6)
Brashier Middle College Charter: 1537 (+9)
Seems that, given their student body concentrations, the charter schools don't really do any better than the public schools. They don't seem to be doing worse, but not noticeably better either. Also, out of seventeen schools, only two went down - although this is likely related to the lower % test takers.
ACT scores:
% of test takers is now 100%, so scores will obviously be lower at the majority of schools. In 2015, % of test takers ranged from 18% at Berea to 59% at J.L Mann to 69% at Brashier.
Charter Schools:
Greer Middle College Charter 22.3 (-0.1)
Brashier Middle College Charter 21.8 (-1.3)
Greenville Tech Charter 20.6 (-4.0)
The public school that had the biggest decrease was Southside, at 4.5 points, and the lowest decrease was Greenville, at 1 point. Makes sense for Southside considering that previously there would be a heavy concentration of IB kids taking the test, and with 100%, that is now diluted.
The SAT went back to a 1600 scale in March. Are those numbers above just from the 2400 scale, or is it both combined? It is really an issue for college admissions folks this year, as they are dealing with SAT's from two different grading scales, plus ACT writing changes.
Also, as noted above, you can't compare the school averages if you have considerably changed the percentage of the population that is taking the test.
Is Southside High school an IB program for all the school students enrolled there, or only a select few join the IB program? If so, can we find out the scores of those in the IB program
