I was wondering if someone could tell me how the Pickens area is for living? Considering making the move west to have more open rural space which is what it seems to have, but I haven't been able to read much about the area.
My parents live in Pickens on 3.5 acres on the border of Pickens and Six Mile, about 15 minutes into town. It's really quiet where they are and people tend to keep to themselves.
Clemson / Central / Pendleton area near the lakes is the best area of Pickens in my view. Easley is the most populated area and has some nice neighborhoods, and the closet area to Greenville.

What are you looking for besides more open space? Are schools important? Do you need to commute to Greenville for work?
Pickens itself is pretty small. They have very limited shopping options beyond the Walmart Supercenter, a Save A Lot, and a couple of drugstores. It's an old mill town with a few run down areas as well.
Some of the countryside around Pickens is really beautiful. There is a small park on the north side of Pickens with a short greenway and a pretty intense mountain biking course. There is also a new greenway connecting Pickens and Easley.
Check out the Easley Chamber of Commerce. I have lived in Pickens County for over 20 years. Easley SC to be exact. Lower property taxes, kind of laid back, not far from lakes or Mountains.
