Moonville Plaza is a retail center located at the southwest quadrant of Augusta Road and Piedmont Golf Course Road in the Piedmont community in Greenville County, South Carolina. It is anchored by a supermarket, Ingle's #29.

Previous tenants at Moonville Plaza were a drugstore, Revco, and an auto parts retailer, Advance Auto Parts #5330. Revco became CVS #5569 when CVS acquired Revco. CVS #5569 relocated to a freestanding location at 7401 Augusta Road, Piedmont, South Carolina 29673-9509, the southeast corner of Augusta Road and Ashmore Bridge Road, in 1998. Advance Auto Parts relocated to a freestanding location at 7598 Augusta Road, Piedmont, South Carolina 29673-9651, the northwest corner of Augusta Road and Piedmont Golf Course Road.

Ingle's #29 is Ingle's oldest operating store in Greenville County. It underwent aesthetic improvements in early 2017 including painting the facade from shades of red, orange, and yellow to a light brown.

Ingle's Markets acquired Moonville Plaza in May 2009.

Default Ingle's #29, Moonville Plaza, 7616 Augusta Road, Piedmont, South Carolina 29673-9652

I initially visited Ingle's #29 in January 2015. Upon walking in the store through the vestibule, I noticed the cart corral and customer service are to the right (D-side) of the store. The delicatessen was adjacent to the meat department in the back of the store. The produce department was in the left rear corner of the store. The bakery was up front to the left (B-side) of the store. The decor and fixtures were reminiscent of Ingle's stores from the 1970's.

The only modification to the store at the time were the non-conveyor belt checkout stands as they were current with other Ingle's stores. They replaced the older checkout stands in the late 1990's or early 2000's.

There is speculation Ingle's Markets will build a new Ingle's #29 onsite as a 72,000-square-foot supermarket with a drive thru pharmacy, a Starbucks, and an Ingle's Gas Express. The recent aesthetic improvements are likely temporary to improve the look of the existing store.

They have the room to build a nice, modern store on that site. And that area is something of a food desert.. There's nothing else close that I can think of.

There's a Food Lion about 2 miles down 25.. That's all I can think of. There's a few 'mom and pop' type stores.. Whatever that discount store on Hwy 8 in Pelzer is..

The only other stores that I can think of from that vintage that (might) still exist as Ingles are Hendersonville and Sylva, NC.. And those may have been replaced by now.

There's still a few of the buildings around.. And a more than fair number of the old Yellow, Red and Blue 'arrow' signs, but few that are still being used.. I know the old Abbeville Ingles is being used as the town post office (That's a funny read if you go through the lawsuits over the old post office in Abbeville)

That's a relatively recent image of those stores in Abbeville.. I presume Ingles still owns both buildings there as they don't often sell property. It's a good example of their 'side by side' building.. Looking at the image.. That's the first time I've noticed that they turned the old Winn-Dixie (next door) into a branch of the Abbeville Library. Glad to see that building getting some use.

Quoting that post from the other topic, because.. I just seem to go totally off base when we're talking about these, so.. This is my attempt to steer myself back on track..

Those graphics were.. Wow.. Who thought that looked good? Even then?

That 'circus' looking banner up on the ceiling..

I remember that striped floor..

And those earth tones..

And there's the 'arrow' signs.

Throw a plug in here.. Those images come from Sky City Blog, which.. A good read on some of the older stuff.. not a fan of the recent.. http://skycity2.blogspot.com/

Supermarket Food Lion #2644, 8024 Augusta Road, Piedmont, South Carolina 29673-6594, would be Ingle's #29's direct competitor.

Bargain Foods, 349 Highway 8, Pelzer, South Carolina 29669-9729, is a limited assortment/discount grocer.

That would be the first Ingle's #77, 625 Spartanburg Highway, Hendersonville, North Carolina 28792-5762. The store has been replaced by the new (and second) Ingle's #77 onsite.
