I've been in Greenville since Thursday, leaving tomorrow. I have been reading the posts on this forum for the last year getting as much information as possible, good and bad. I've read so many good things about the area, but had to see for myself if this was a place I would like to live. Stayed at the Drury Inn for 3 nights. Fantastic place to stay, everything was really nice and staff very friendly. Spent part of a day downtown and had lunch. It was as beautiful and charming as everyone had said. Drove to Caesars Head and Table Rock Parks and they were fantastic also. The weather was great all 3 days, nice, warm, and sunny. I can see why so many of you are proud of where you live.
The only downside I had was the traffic on Woodruff Road, extremely congested at times, but that goes with the tremendous growth. I would think that some better planning with some of the stop lights would help tremendously. Very nice places to shop though.
I grew up in the Midwest and there are many places in the south I wouldn't care to live, but I would definitely live in the Greenville area. It has so much to offer and it has a certain charm about it. I felt very safe where ever I went in the city and the people were very nice. I don't know if it will work out if I will live here or not, but I will be back to visit either way.
well said my friend. I actually think that greenville has done a pretty good job keeping up with the growth. I mean, they actually have a beltway! I agree with you that traffic can be an issue in pretty much any town. the best way to combat traffic is to know where you are going and how to avoid traffic.
I would love if it didn't grow but there was an article in the paper that said if they did things wrong there would be a bunch of Woodruff Roads. Hopefully they'll plan things better.
You know Yankees can be just as nice & welcoming as southerners.
that's true. But their kids might not be. Their kids might mock all things Southern or label it redneck. Plus their accents also start to affect people's speech here.
I blame no one for wanting to come here. I just don't like when they do. Whether they mean to or not it affects the Southerness.
Now you are sounding exactly like the kind of person you don't want living here. Enough with this endless negativity and either accept the changes for what they are or move on to finding your perfect little "southern" paradise somewhere else. Continually saying the same thing here will not do yourself any good.
