I am so jealous! I haven't had any hummers come to my feeder yet. I love to watch them so I am excited for the upcoming season.

First female showed up today. Cheeky little lady flew all around me, checking me out, before she calmly fed from the feeder. Kind of a rush to have one in hover your face..... so cool.

I know its not hummingbirds, but I'm sure that many of you also feed other birds, along with the hummingbirds. I'm wondering if anyone else has suddenly been getting high numbers of Rose Breasted Grosbeaks. They arrived this weekend and as many as 8 pairs have been regular visitors on my feeders, ever since. I don't ever recall seeing these guys before, but they are certainly a gorgeous addition.

It's amazing that she felt comfortable circling around you; birds can be a bit skittish around people.

Not female hummingbirds, NDL! They are quite bold. Was standing on the deck at my old house and had a planter full of petunias near where I was standing. A female hummer came by, and hovered inches in front of my face, looked in each eye, and then went to feed. Startling and a little frightening with that long beak in my face!

One little female who tried several times to feed on the red flowers printed on my Hawaiian shirt was pretty comical. Not uncommon at all for one to go eyeball to eyeball with you if you're near a nest or preferred feeder. We had one a few years ago that tapped on the sliding glass door when her feeder wasn't quite up to snuff for her taste. Smart and fearless, they are.

That's incredible , and I can see how having a long beak hovering in close proximity can be intimidating!

Between the humming birds and the wood boring bees, I have a constant humming sound in my head. One or the other is constantly in my face.

We've been getting them the last couple days, too. Usually, I take the seed feeders down by now, but I still have sunflower seed to get rid of. I think they're migrating through, as western NC is the southern limit of their breeding range, but it would be cool to have a pair stick around. It's interesting that our winter birds have no interest in the feeder now. All we get is purple finches, a flicker, and the grosbeaks. The chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, etc. are still around, but they ignore the feeder.

We've had steady light traffic at the hummingbird feeder.
