The latest Weather Channel track has tropical depression Ian directly over Greenville area at 2AM Friday morning. Winds @ 30 mph.
Winds or even wind gust to around 40mph(+/-) is typ threshold for scattered tree/power issues to begin. We’ve had worse thunderstorms, but the wear and tear over several hours with wet soils will do it.

I expect area schools to be closed Friday, especially Greenville County, due to down trees and flash flooding in the mountain areas.
Looking at the latest models. Don't be surprised to see this storm go straight through Florida, come out in the Atlantic and then move north along our coast our just inland. That would be devastating for the Charleston area, and keep us dry.

Thats what Im expecting will happen, but Charlseton will be ok, to the disappointment of a few.
NWS GSP forecast is for peak gust to 39-41mph for Greenville/Spartanburg. That's right at the threshold for scattered downed trees and power outages to be seen. So as usual...right at that line. At least if power does go out it shouldn't be for long. Rain 4-6"

As of this morning, TS Ian appears it will be centered east of Columbia. Of course that will change a bit in about an hour when the next report comes out (8AM).
As for the upstate, if this trend stays true (more easterly), we should miss the brunt of it. But still expect a good amount of rain on Friday mostly, but into Sunday.
As of Thursday evening: some more bumps East. NWS with 1-2” Greenville, 2-3” Spartanburg. Likely sharp cut off in rain totals of have and have nots. Wind gust maybe right to that start seeing some scattered downed tree / power issues but likely not wide spread (a few thousand wouldn’t be surprising, but they can get out and repair lines in these speeds). A few power outages in the area today with the strong breeze/gust hanging around. Timing Friday sometime during day, ending late Friday night it appears.
