My wife and I gave a hard look at the Columbia area last year specifically
the Lexington, and Irmo areas. Our thought was that jobs would
be available due to Columbia being the state Capital and my wife has
a state job here in PA. While we liked the area, and the people were
so incredibly nice, we found the congestion to be a bit overwelming
compared to what we are used to here, especially during rush hour
heading in to Columbia. Seemed like the area was exploding in population
too as seen by the incredible amount of housing developments popping
up around the Lexington area. Just curious if the surrounding areas
of Greenville, such as Greer, Simpsonville, Mauldin is a similar scenario
to the Lexington, Irmo area. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

Columbia's traffic is by far worse than here, we have traffic but it doesn't compare to Columbia. I had so classes there and the traffic was unbelievable, I couldn't wait to get out of there! I live in Pelzer/Piedmont area and LOVE it! I work in Anderson and my drive is like 35 miles and I can make it in 30-45 mins, just depends on traffic on I-85 that day.

The only place here where traffic can get really bad is on Woodruff Road. Other than that, i've never really noticed bad traffic jams during rush hour.

you are right, the only time I hit bad traffic is if there is an accident. Other than that it's not bad,Woodruff Rd. has always been bad, Simpsonville is getting kinda bad too.

The only bad rush hour location other than the ones listed would be I-85 Southbound at Pelham RD. It usually backs up here every work day.

And Northbound but there are back roads. You learn them quick.

I don't know if you guys are just trying to get people here or not, but traffic in Greenville is just as bad or worse than Columbia. I85 is a nightmare everyday and 385 out of Simpsonville backs up every morning. And there are a lot of wrecks here.

I live a little more than an hour from Greenville.... and dread going there for anything. If you are looking for a great city in SC check out Charleston. I lived there for 3 years and don't remember the congestion being anything like Greenville or Columbia, unless there was an accident or something.

Are you kidding? Highway 17 through Charleston is terrible. Some of the worst sprawl you have ever laid your eyes on.
