If you visit jump off rock/jocassee gorges please tread softly.
This is one of the most ecologically important areas in the southeast, and perhaps the nation. I could go on and on about the rare plant species and isolated groups of otherwise dwindling native animal populations that exist in this area. The Jocassee preserve is a jewel of South Carolina's natural heritage.
As such, please leave no trace when you visit. Take pictures, but nothing else. Leave nothing, but a prayer of thanks for God's creation. I hope you truly enjoy your trip to this magnificent place - but please, please tread softly.
SCSKier: Thanks so much! We have so much to learn about the area. I appreciate the help.
One other thing for the outdoor folks. The South Carolina Parks websie now has a new service to track the fall foliage via the Internet. There is a new webcam at Table Rock State Park. Just go to SouthCarolinaParks.com and click on fall foliage information link.
Thanks, SKKier for the beautiful photos of Jumpoff Rock. With the long rocky road approach and the black bears, I'll probably never make it there, so your photos are doubly appreciated!!
When does it open back up for 4-Wheeling? Went in late December, and what a great ride. Ready to go back but heard it doesn't open back up until March. If anyone knows when they allow 4-Wheelers back in, I would love to know.
