I'm in the market for buying my first home and our realtor is primarily looking for older homes in the 90k-110k range. I have noticed that a few bad neighborhoods on the city edge are being gentrified into newer starter homes, areas such as Washington Heights or Bruntontown and I am attracted to the new houses close to downtown, but I'm not sure about the neighborhoods yet, which I guess is the risk in buying in transitional areas. Also, the other limiting factor seems to be that the lots in these developments are routinely under a quarter acre.
Does anyone have any opinions or information on these areas? I want a larger lot so most likely we'll end up in an older home in the Greenville periphery, but I am not immune to the charm of a brand new house even if I am in a low budget range.
