Does anyone have any information as to whether there is school choice or are you stuck in the district in which you live and if so which districts are best? I have looked up the schools grades, but if SC is anything like Florida the grading system is easily doctored!! I hope not though!!!
Have you checked out the school district websites? I know that there is some degree of choice within Greenville County, but I honestly don't know the extent of it.
It is my understanding that if you wish for your child to attend a school in another school district you must apply. The child needs to write a letter stating why they want to attend that particular school, etc, etc. The deadline for the 2007-2008 school year has already passed.
In my opinion it would be better to just look for housing in the school district that you want your child to go to.
We are moving in June and the elementary school my daughter is slated to attend was further away than 2 others. The school assignments are based on the subdivision you live in. The Greenville school system has a policy that allows parents to request a specific school by writing a letter with an explanation of why they want to change. We are trying to change from Bryson Elementary to Bells Crossing, because Bells Crossing is closer and got a little better ratings. I think there are 2 windows of opportunity to make requests, one was in Feb and one is in either end of March or April. Anyway, they are building like crazy and school assignments are changing yearly.
This page speaks of school transfers
