I'm looking for some swimming holes to take the kids on an adventure within a 1-2 hour drive from Greenville. We will have two school age kids and a baby, so not too much hiking, if possible. Thanks!
I just got back Monday from a visit with my ex in laws at their cabin near Cashiers NC. Their association has property on Lake Glenville and it is a beautiful lake. There didn't appear to be too many public beaches, but there were a couple. I would highly recommend it especially if you have a boat. There are three waterfalls that run into the lake and it is something to see! Sadly, pretty much every website I found was about rentals, not general info. off highway 11 is longshoals falls. It is right off the rd. add a short walk down. There is a little area that looked to be waste high on an adult. People were having a blast when we were there.
Hey everyone, I used to go to a place called Sliding Rock....anyone know if it is still open? They had bathhouses and there was virtually no hike...parking was right there. It was a great waterfall where you could actually slide down the rocks into the natural pool below......
Just west of Highlands, NC, there is a great little place called Quarry Falls. Although it may be better suited for adult recreation (dangerous rocks and rapids), it is a beautiful and useful nearby summer attraction.
South Cove on Lake Keowee has some picnic shelters, restrooms and a beachy area. It is in Seneca SC. You would have to have a boat to get to the waterfalls on Lake Keowee, but if you just want to swim and picnic you would be fine.
Hey Skyliner! Thanks! Mega Rep to you for the info. I'm going to make sure I save a Saturday or Sunday to go hit Sliding Rock again. You always have the best info.... you are a real asset to the forum.
