I do agree that this thread has stayed on topic. It's a little political for the Gville forum, but it does affect us all.
See this is the type of thing I'm interested in, what were those proposals like? did they make sense? are people trying to promote them over the reform they are attempting to pass now?

Go to this article:
CNSNews.com - Republicans Have Offered Three Alternative Health Care Reform Bills (http://www.cnsnews.com/public/content/article.aspx?RsrcID=52896 - broken link)

It has links to the three proposals that I talked about in my previous post. Do they make sense? Good question, like all bills these days, you need a law degree.

Our "fourth branch" of government - The press - won't even report on them. So the GOP can't get the word out that they even exist. The Dems are still trying to ramrod their Gov't run healthcare plan through. When you don't have the power in the house, you don't have the microphone either. The system needs reform, but we don't need a new system. It's like junking a car because you got a flat tire. It doesn't make sense.

I believe we have the best healthcare in the world, but the insurance companies can be crooked and need to be reeled in. To deny coverage due to pre-existing conditions is not right. Demanding that I cover people who drive a brand new $40k pickup, but don't want to buy health coverage, is not right either. There is a story behind all 22 million people. My guess is that I would feel bad for about 20% of them. The other 80% just make horrible choices in life. If I can't control their paycheck and how they spend their money, then I don't want to have to buy more stuff for them.

Here is an article that will make you go hmmm. 62% of poor people have cable television. That is the first thing to go in my home when things get tight.
Understanding Poverty in America

I know I'm touting the GOP here, but believe me, I think the whole Gov't is corrupt these days. The GOP is far from always being correct. The people should demand that any changes to health care must pertain to those in Congress. The fact that they are saying "it's good for you people, but not for us" should raise every red flag ever made!!!!

Whole Foods Market CEO John Mackey has some very good ideas as well. My ears tuned in when I first heard about his business model, including salaries and healthcare for his employees. Check out his Wall Street Journal article for more details. I hate socialism for many reasons and therefore the policies that lead to its creation and implementation. Yes we need healthcare reform as we need reform in many other areas, however the government should have no part in its operation.

Yes, of course the sytem has to be fixed. So that people like me do not have to pay for the uninsured people like you. You seem to rely on the hospital "waving the bill" or the charity of others when you go to the hospital, leaving the bill to be made up by the rest of us. Other people are currently paying for your health care, including the 30% overhead that goes to the private insurance companies, because those insurance folks have to calculate how to make up for the dead beats, with no insurance, who rely on the hospital writing off losses to the uninsured, a.k.a. you!

What happens if you get in an accident and the bill is $300,000? Or $600,000? YOU HAVE NO INSURANCE. These size bills are common in extended stays from severe injuries. I know what you'll do in that situation. You'll do what every other person has to do. Declare bankruptcy and not pay your bill. "Why should I have to pay for you?" Isn't that the Republican mantra, yet that is EXACTLY what happens CURRENTLY - on a scale much higher than any costs associated with the hybrid health care system before Congress. You and your ilk have blocked ANY health care reform since the 70's, and now we are in the system that we have: a total disaster that only works for the wealthiest people and government employees.

It's consistent fear-mongering and outright lies from people like you that have put us in the situation we're in, where even the most conservative of the conservative HAVE to realize our current system is ludicrous and more expensive than any other on the planet. What have conservatives and Republicans done to help? To prevent this in the first place? NOTHING!

Conservatives had their chance to "fix" the health care system when they had power in all parts of the Federal government. They did nothing. Now they want to block honest efforts to make this a better system through fear-mongering and outright lying. The words that come to my mine next are not nice enough to post here...

Please tell me your baby has health insurance.

Dude, are you bi-polar? Seriously? Yesterday you were actually civil, and although I thought it out of character for you; I was kind and friendly to you. Today, you're back to your usual angry combative self. Pick a personality and stick with it.

I don't have insurance, I am what's called "self pay", therefore I pay less then you do, because doctors offices do not have to file paper work. No one is forcing you to have insurance; well not yet anyway, Dear Leader wants to force us to have it; constitution be darned. You do not pay for me, since no paperwork is filed with any insurance company; to repeat,I am self pay; i.e. cash.

P.S. Stop being so combative all the time; it's bad for your health.

It seems to me that the root of the healthcare reform are the insurance companies who by-the-way besides the rich detest any form of socialism. But to briefly get off of the subject do you all know who is profiting from this mess? Auto insurance companies. How? When you cannot pay for your healthcare it drops your credit rating which raises your car insurance (which is mandatory). To top it all off many health insurers also insure your car. They will get you one way or another

(tripped off of my soap box)

Do you have $250,000 in cash (http://www.kansan.com/stories/2009/aug/27/health_insurance/ - broken link)? $400,000? Does your wife? I don't think so, since you had to finance a $4600 bill last month. Who pays when you get in an accident and cop out on your bill because you have no insurance?

Answer: the rest of us through higher insurance premiums and government funds for hospitals. Either that or your wife and infant. Most people choose bankruptcy over making payments on a $400,000 hospital bill.
