My husband has a job offer in Summerville, SC (20 min. west of Charleston), but we really want to be in the Greenville area. What towns around Greenville would make for the easiest commute (we know it will be about a 3 hr drive), considering traffic, etc... He would be making the trek two-three days/week.
thanks.

If you wanted to feel like you were part of Greenville, I wouldn't go any further south than Simpsonville/Fountain Inn, both of which would be fine choices.

Thanks tony123,
That's what I figured. Do you know anything about the schools in either town?

Wow, that is quite a commute! I have known several people who commute between Greenville and Atlanta, but very few - if any - commuting between Greenville and Charleston. Your resolve to live in the Greenville area is admirable, and you should be well-rewarded as a result. As Tony mentioned, Simpsonville or Fountain Inn would be your best choice considering your husband's commute south on I-385. Anywhere off of Fairview Road, West Georgia Road, or S.C. Highway 418 would be excellent. If you haven't done so yet, I recommend checking out the new Griffin Park (http://griffinpark.com - broken link) development on West Georgia Road. It is a nice traditional neighborhood development (TND) that will have its own small town atmosphere when complete.

That would mean a 6 hour commute most likely longer since there are accidents which can tie up that road for hours. I have a friend who lives in North Charleston right on the Summerville border. Summerville is a beautiful town and I hear schools are good. It was only recently that I actually drove through the downtown of Summerville since when we go we usually go to Charleston for dinner. I'm from New England and the immediate impression I got was of a New England town. I caught another post where you thought it was too big. My guess is you really were in North Charleston where the mall is rather than in Summerville or on the dreaded Dorchester Road (which is where my friend lives off of). This is NOT Summerville. It's like saying Woodruf Road is an indication of Greenville. If you traveled it on a Saturday you'd sure be scared away ;-)
