At least we don't have a purple gay looking dog wondering around the Bi-Lo Center anymore. Gotta look at the brightside of it.

Official press release: Road Warriors Ride Into Town -- GREENVILLE, S.C., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- I'm not going to complain about the name/logo too much but I will say this. If it was up to me, I would have chosen something like the Greenville Copperheads or Highlanders instead. We're already paying heritage to the automotive industry with the Drive. I don't think we need to do it with the new hockey team also but that's just my opinion. I like the team colors but not exactly sure why there is a Gladiator/Ghengis Khan figure there. Reminds me of the Gwinnett Gladiators logo.

Oh and the website could really use some work: http://www.greenvilleroadwarriors.com/ Whoever designed it did a horrible job.

Here is the ECHL fan board, for those interested : ECHL - IntotheBoards (http://www.intotheboards.net/vbforums/forumdisplay.php?f=3 - broken link)

I'm "Grrreenville". The regulars are already giving us a hard time for the new name... I don't blame them!

I like the new name, logo, and colors. This is a hockey team after all. It looks tough and well balanced -- perfect for the sport. The website is obviously a work in progress and will improve as time advances. Exciting!

People are really slamming this name on the Greenville Road Warrior's facebook page. Very few positive comments sadly. I like the logo (even though I don't think it matches with the name very well), team colors and Warriors name. I don't like the "Road" part of it. Take that out or replace it with something like "Ice" and you'll have yourself a winner.

Ice Warriors would have been a great choice, g-man. Definitely better than Road Warriors.

For what it's worth, many people (including myself) thought Drive was a stupid choice for our baseball team. But it's become part of our city and most of us are over our initial displeasure with the choice. Hopefully the same thing will happen with the Road Warriors.

Maybe the Mascot's name could be Mad Max........Don't know what that has to do with Greenville thought........I'm just thinking of the movie.

Road Warriors...crazy. In sports, a team that does well on the road is sometimes described as being Road Warriors. So this doesn't fit at all, as the main nickname.

Just Warriors would be better, or even Ice Warriors as was said. I don't think this was thought out too well, and I don't think the name will inspire extra interest, unfortunately.

Does Mel Gibson have a stake in the team? What was a Viking road like? Mud?

This name/logo confuses me.

Maybe I'm just bitter they didn't use my suggestion: The Greenville Sprawl

Gee Wiz Art123....I can not imagine why they did not choose "Sprawl" -I can tell we won't be seeing you at the games.
sprawl ;
to spread the limbs in a relaxed, awkward, or unnatural position,to sit or lie in such a position: to sprawl in a chair,to crawl in an awkward, ungainly way,to spread out in an awkward or uneven way, esp. so as to take up more space than is necessary, as handwriting, a line of men, etc.
