Dateline: Late February, 2017. It's a few years from now, and Raum Emmanuel, having "straightened out" Chicago by simply outlawing "Bad Thoughts within city limits" [why didn't we think of that, huh? ], has triumphantly moved back to Washington,D.C., and was elected by a slim margin as Prez on this same platform, standing proudly alongside his long-time pal, Chuck Schumer as his new Veep. The citizens, repeatedly disappointed by the predictable return of Republican big-biz nonsense, have also elected a slim majority to the House and Senate.

Shortly afterward, realizing that general gun control is the wildly unpopular third rail of legislative action, they announced a "compromise" position with America's by now very well-armed gun owners. There are well over 20 million AR-15 type semi-auto deer hunting rifles in civilian hands by then, many acquired as well for home and hometown defense.

"You can keep a total of eight firearms" intoned President E. in his first State of The Union address"These can be: one rimfire rifle, 3 centerfire rifles, 2 shotguns and 2 handguns. Anything else is obviously unnecessary for "rational sporting purposes", and will be forcibly confiscated by the new People's National Security Agency [PENSA] that our dear now-retired president Obama secretly began several years ago. (We don't care about muzzle loaders of course!)"

Naturally, the ever-vigilant NRA succeeded in preventing the mass illegal confiscation of all "assault-styled" weapons, and since in any case, so many of those were still entering the country illegally across the Mexican border following the Border Insurrection Dispute of 2015.

That landmark socio-political event was marked by tens of thousands of frantic illegals trying to storm into our country en-masse for claimed political asylum reasons, following the complete collapse of all the Latin American economies, and the total cultural conversion into a series of drug-based dictator-run thuggocracies. As a result, we witnessed the hasty construction of our "better-late-than-never" John McCain Memorial Fence using border town labor camps filled with those very illegals who thought they could just get away with it...

Anyhow, there's your choices. Yeah, a bit dramatic (or not?????). What would you assemble, and don't tell me you'd keep (maybe even hastily buy...) a lot more firearms and just fight the socialist-lib-lunnies off. That part's obvious, for us patriots, but play along with my scenario. What would you keep, given those types and number limits?

(Hey; I could have just said "what if you could only have the following assortment of firearms?". This way's more fun, no?

BTW, my choices? a Ruger 10/22, An AR "social rifle" in 6.8 SPC, solid piston operating system; a good bolt gun (Sako 85?) in 280 Remington, an 1895 Marlin 45/70, me trusty 870 pump, a 28 ga side by side for gentlemen's upland bird hunting of course, a S&W AirLite J frame in .327 Federal and a .454 Casull. Yeah, I'd like a lot more, but hey; the law's the law, huh?

What're your poisons? Have fun!

Pardon me but wouldn't this tread be better discussed in the Survival forum?

I dunno: it just deals with favorite guns under a fantasy situation. What would you keep if you had a limit? What's worked well for you in the past in "sporting" sirtuations? If this were in the Survival sub, I'd make different choices. mostly shotguns, small arms and a folding stock AK type or two. With no limits of course!

Just ignore my satirical mind if you want to; I had to think up a reason we'd ever be limited in our sporting firearms. No survival necessarily involved.

Hey; it's your future Federal Government at work, maybe. After all, we know how Senator Chuckles thinks already....

The reason is that people would think of their firearms as "sporting" and for sporting purposes rather than tools for the basic human right of self defense. Too many average Joe upland game and deer hunters have such a mindset that there should be "limits".Too many politicians already chomping at the bit, including the heads of the Justice Department and BATFE to redefine firearms for "sporting purposes" only. This is just the type of mindset that allows "limits" to be set, IMO. YMMV. Maybe you, like Holder and BAFTE don't see 3-gun tactical matches as "sporting" events?

As a "rifleman" yourself certainly you don't eliminate from your mind the use of bolt action hunting rifles for non-sporting means do you? A highly proficient rifleman can run a bolt .308 and stay on target side by side with an operator running an M4 platform rifle with a 30 rnd magazine. I've seen it done by a true rifleman.

I recall a professional writer rifleman/hunter with a blog who thought there should be limits. He suffered the loss of a decades long professional writing/hunting career for voicing his opinion because he had never handled "full auto" weapons or ERBs. The look on his face was priceless when he was given the opportunity to do just that. His quote "everyone ought to own one"! With a grin a wide as a child's on Christmas morning....

Poor Jim Zumbo. I killed a lot of Mule Deer because of the techniques I learned from his books. Still amazes me that I still have hunting buddies that cant understand why I own and enjoy shooting Black Rifles just because I can. It's just such a stupid wedge issue that should not be there in our gun owning communities.

Well, I'm saving a Colt AR-15, a SIG 556, A SIG P226, Glock 27 and Remmington 870 Police for my "big flush" contingency plan.

They are my choices because I trained heavily with them (except the SIG 556) as an LEO and am very familiar with them.

I got the Sig rifle because it is more compact than the AR (it has a real folding stock) and uses a bulletproof AK-derived bolt but still takes AR mags. Plus it was the right price...I wanted a SCAR but I just can't see dropping over 2K for one.

I also have abut 1K in .556 rounds and 500 .40's; plus a couple hundred rounds of 12 GA slugs and 00 buck stored away, just in case.

I don't honestly expect to play "Road Warrior" in my lifetime, but it never hurts to be prepared. Otherwise, shooting makes a fine weekend hobby.

I have firearms because I want them and have the right to possess them, what they are used for does not matter. I will die before I will allow anyone to confiscate them.

Sure. But with me it's Hummel figurines. I will die before I allow anyone to confiscate them.

Nicknamed the giggle switch for a good reason.
I had a full auto uzi decades ago, lot of fun but hard on the wallet. I reloaded the 9mm but found the uzi very picky on ammo.
