Does constantly, constantly, CONSTANTLY hearing and reading this bother anyone else? It grates in my head every time I come across it (10+ times a day?) because I consider it a pretty stupid scenario which will not accomplish what the people who constantly use it seem to believe it will accomplish.

In most states, a simple "I sold them to someone who can legally own firearms" is a far more plausible explanation than "oh yeah, I had one of those extremely common "tragic boating accidents" like every other gun owner apparently had."

Or maybe I'm just being a pain.

Boating accident? I don't follow the connection to firearms, even as an example...does anyone else?

Are you talking about accidental/negligent discharges?

Problem with boating accidents are divers.

Now unexplained worms holes that materialize inside the gun safe is another matter altogether.

I have no idea what Airborne is talking about either. Hearing about 10 boating accidents a day, how is that possible?? Does he work for the Coast Guard or something?

I am assuming that they are using that phrase to indicate they either no longer have the gun and either lost it or sold it. Either that or they are part of the group that doesn't want to register their guns so the lie about having them.

Hmmm, maybe the "boating accident" excuse isn't as prevalent as I believe it is. I did see it more than once on this forum though, today.

And yes, I'm referring to the "I don't own guns anymore officer. I lost them all in a freak boating accident," nonsense.

Is that some new code for "I don't have the gun I shot that guy with anymore because I leaned over a boat railing and it accidentally fell out of my pocket"?

Left handed people shouldn't pocket carry in an open-door Jeep also.

OK I think I get it now - he is referring to the common cynical online response of "I lost all my guns in a boating accident", as a half-comical winking attempt to hide gun ownership from the government.
To those that use that response, please change it to "I sold all my guns to another legal gun owner" in future discussions.
Is that translation accurate?
