From what I have seen no Chinese sks is C&R because of the dating system that can not be traced to a specific year. Russian sks and others can be traced to a specific year and are eligible. This is what I have read on the web not sure it its true. My thing is you can take the back cover off of one Russian sks and put it on another do a cross out of the serial no and force match it and you have an eligible sks? But I don't know if the Russians made sks models past the current 50 year mark.

2) What is a firearm curio or relic?
Firearm curios or relics include firearms which have special value to collectors because they possess some qualities not ordinarily associated with firearms intended for sporting use or as offensive or defensive weapons. To be recognized as curios or relics, firearms must fall within one of the following categories:

Have been manufactured at least 50 years prior to the current date, but not including replicas thereof; or
Be certified by the curator of a municipal, State, or Federal museum which exhibits firearms to be curios or relics of museum interest; or
Derive a substantial part of their monetary value from the fact that they are novel, rare, bizarre, or from the fact of their association with some historical figure, period, or event.

3) Lic. Not hard to get, nor is the fee expensive. See ATF website for forms and instructions.
So, if you have a gun that isnt 50, but close, and you want certain C&R status, you would end up registering this weapon with ATF? I have a gun that has a history, war trophy documented. Little Napalm too on it.
Can you still use and/or carry weapon if C&R?

The carry part is, as always, dependent on your local laws-but nothing that I saw back when I had a C&R precluded me from using it. It is meant to facilitate collections but I guess it's up to the collector as to how you use the collection

I should get another C&R, as I had to leave some of the collection behind in Alaska when we moved, had to drive through Canada. They are at a friends house and the FFL transfer fees are about what I paid for guns in the first place.

Those were the C&R gravy days, the old USSR was emptying out those warehouses for hard cash and it was all cheap as chips.
