Heck, if your a purist the 45 is the only one you could choose that was never chambered in a carbine historically.

Colt chambered single actions in 44/40, 38/40, 32/20 & probably but I'm not sure, in 25/20. Nobody chambered a lever action in 45 until late in the 20th century. I want to say it was in the 1970's but I'm not certain.

No big deal or anything, just the way it was. I'v been told that Colt wouldn't let other companies chamber for the then proprietary 45 Colt cartrige.

Quite correct. It always puzzled me to. Lol, the most effective and popular cartrige ever was never teamed with a carbine in the 'wild west'. The Winchester Trapper was the first lever gun in it, I believe, and today LC lever guns are quite popular. Gee, wonder why?. My 25-5 SW teamed with my Marlin 94 is a formidable combination.
