If this is truly a nuisance/wild cat that could be causing damage, then I would have suggested a wrist-rocket ( at least in the old days that's what they were called ) and a marble. Good range and decent accuracy, and the welts should teach it a lesson. Tough to just scare a dog or cat that is out on it's own with something soft.
But if its just roaming into your yard, and your cats could be roaming into someone else's ( regardless if they could cause harm or not ), keep in mind someone could be aiming for your pets as well.
I;ve got the 760 pumpmaster you can buy anywhere, bb and pellets. If you only pump it once or twice and aim for the cats butt you won't damage him but it will sting. I do this with squirrels on my bird feeder.
