My daughter has a funky odor coming from her scalp. She has no other body odor, washes her hair in the shower and rinses well, no creme rinse, changes pillowcase weekly.
Sometimes it seem to reappear almost immediately after her shampoo. Not head or neck odor- definitely scalp odor.
Can you recommend shampoo- she uses pantene- or give suggestions?

I've never heard of this, before, but, being sick, have some time on my hands. I googled, and this site came up with some links that might help you.
that's a new one to me. How about getting her a new pillow and try a dandruff shampoo, as dandruff shampoos have meds in them that may help against whatever microbe is creating the odor.

I would start changing the pillowcase daily. Use natural fabrics and wash them with oxyclean or bleach in the hottest water. Toss out that old pillows and replace them with new. Ideally throw a cover around them that is suppose to cut out dust mites, bed bugs etc. But at a minimum replace the case daily. A cheap alternative to pillow cases: packs of men's white t's. You can sew them up or leave as is.
For her hair I would use Head and Shoulders and a tea tree shampoo. Condition nightly on the scalp with a rosemary oil. Bonus is that rosemary is suppose to be good for your hair's growth as well as being an anitfungal.
If she gets sweaty at all she should wash her hair before bed. You can deep condition dryness with coconut oil as it is a natural antifungal. Other oils/products could make the fungal problem worse.
wash any headbands etc in hot water and oxyclean and let them dry in the sun. (sunlight kills fungals)
(i think its probably a bit of scalp fungus. Its common in kids that age as they get more oily heading into adulthood)
I found that soy products, formula and milk, made my son's head smell bad. I would stay away from perfumed shampoos and go to something basis like Neutrogena and maybe a vinegar rinse after the shampoo. If it continued, I would take her for a check-up. Hair picks up odors quickly, think cigarette smoke, etc, especially if one has an more oil in their hair/scalp.
I would recommend using a drop or two of Tea Tree oil in her shampoo when you add it to your hand.
I use Tea Tree oil in my kids bath water, for my dogs flea bath, cleaning the house, toothpaste. It even got rid of my daughter's MRSA when she was a baby. My sister in law uses it for my nieces eczema. There are many shampoos that also contain Tea Tree oil. You can get 100% Tea Tree oil from the Vitamin or Health shops.
It is a antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial natural product. You can research it more on the internet. But try that before spending money at a specialist. Also remember it is NOT for internal uses.
Tea tree oil is great for a lot of things, and I was reading today about liquid chlorophyll supplements. Seems to work for almost any type of odor problem. Try them both.
