One of the reasons my Ex is my ex(not the only) is she believed aged defined your looks. Not even close, looks define your age. You want to look younger, dress and act that way. Too many women are prematurely old. Only because they think they are. I dated a 60 year old that was sizzling.
Not 45 yet, am 44. I constantly get compliments on my long hair. I have red, virgin hair. (Virgin in the hair sense, means, no chemicals or dyes on it) It is thick and coarse. I have bangs. Hair is almost near knees. Hubby doesn't want me to cut it. I will cut it once it hits the knees, and donate it. Only cutting about 12 inches. It's practical for me, to have it long. I ride a motorcycle, and it's easier to keep in a braid while riding, then having it loose and get all tangled. Even with it in a braid, I get compliments. If it was stringy looking, I wouldn't have it long.
Back in the 1970s when I was young, many women had long hair. It got started in the hippie era of the late 1960s and continued well into the 1980s. Trouble is many of these women who grew up with the long hair in the 60s and 70s are now Grandmas and no longer look all that great with super long hair. Though they still look at themselves as young hippie girls from 1970s- instead of the middle aged women they are today.
I say cut your hair into something more fitting to your age and situation. Agree or disagree?
I think long hair looks great if it is thick and shiny on High School or College girls. And maybe for another ten years if you are not looking to get into a highly challenging corporate type position. But if you are in your 30s or more having long hair that goes to the middle of your back like you had as a kid looks silly and unprofessional.

I am 36 and I plan to never cut my hair again. I have worn shorter, trendier haircuts for about the past 10 years to try to look more "my age". I say poop on that! I want my hair long so that is the way I'm going to wear it. I have tried too long to fit in a mold that will not accomodate me, so now I'm gunna do ME.

Funny, none of my design clients think that I'm unprofessional.
A 40 year old today is not the same as a 40 year old in 1960. Huge difference in the way people take care of themselves and maintain their appearance. Having long sexy hair does not have an expiration date.
Wear your hair the way that you prefer and keep your opinions about others and their chosen hairstyle to yourself! No one is forcing you to wear your hair long. If a woman likes her hair long and if it happens to please her partner then why on earth should it matter to anyone else?
There are people that feel that women with short hair look masculine but hopefully, there are not people rude enough to tell a woman that "they" (totally irrelevant persons in their lives) feel that they look silly.
What does age 45 have to do with hairstyle??? I don't understand...
