I'm trying to picture what exactly your hair situation is, Wvv, but I have friends your age who went through chemo and radiation and lost ALL their hair and nearly their lives and they are joyful with the little sprouts of curly hair that are coming back, and that they are still alive.

Seems to me that you're really, really overreacting with your three or four feet of hair. It's HAIR, lady.

It's not life.

And you're 40, not 17, when hair is so very very important.

edited to add: I really don't know how this happened, how your 4 feet of hair was cut off, and now your scalp is red and inflamed and all your remaining hair is thin, and you didn't notice that was happening.

I wish you well.

I’m not overreacting. I asked for an angle in the back cutting as little as possible and I end up with most of my hair gone. I wouldn’t have paid any amount of money for this. I loved my hair and it made me feel good. You have no idea what else I’ve been through. A lot. It’s just not fair. Age doesn’t play a factor. I think at 17 it’s less important then when you’re in your 40s.

I would definitely call the salon and ask for an appointment with the manager. At least they can retrain so stylist doesn't do that to anyone else. And they can send you home with a bushel of hair care products for free, it's the least they could do. I would be hesitant to let them touch my hair again if they offered to "fix it" however. Maybe they can show you a way to make your hair at least look like it used to without any additional cutting/trimming.

If they don't show any sympathy I would give them a really bad review online.

I usually have a long Bob cut. Once I had someone that cut my hair for a while that was able to give me a slightly curly look by utilizing a wave I have naturally in my hair. I love that look. A dab of mouse and scrunching hair brought out some curls. Sadly she moved. I tried to find someone else to cut hair like that. Explained it was not done with texturing shears it with well placed chunky cuts. But the stylists always insisted on those texturing shears, just made my hair thinner. I gave up and tried doing it myself with a pretty good outcome. But took an hour or more to do it. Some stylists just don't listen and do what they want no matter what you say. And don't try to find a different way to do cuts

Wvv - See if you can locate a Deva Curl stylist that is within a reasonable drive of where you live. Trust me, they are worth it to put a few extra miles on your vehicle in order to get there. They have specialized training in cutting and styling curly hair. Make the appointment now and go. See what the Deva Curl stylist has to recommend about the condition of your hair right now. See if the stylist has specific products that he or should would recommend. The stylist can work with you as your hair grows.

Thanks but 90% of my hair is gone and my hair doesn’t curl anymore there’s only a slight wave. My hair used to be rough and thick to the touch. Now it’s just slimy thin and gross. See if I can find one but I don’t know what they can really do with all of this hair just gone. Have you used one? Do you have curly hair?

Yes, some of us have been through this.

Yes our hair ended up looking like something hanging off a half rotted zombie.

The destruction happens fast, the shearing is over quickly, but they assure us they know what they are doing and this will give our hair texture and shape. lol.

All I could do was put my hair up using a lot of clips and pins, as there was NO ponytail left, just a thin strip of wispy, uneven flyaway hairs. There isn't an elastic in existence that could wrap around that sickly thing. It was like it wasn't even my hair, it even felt very different to the touch, the shine and body were gone. I tried to pull as much as I could over the sheared scalp areas. Used lots of shellac hairspray, heavy duty hair clips, headbands, etc.... and hats. Hair accessories were my best friend after the scalping.

Yes, I do use a Deva Curl stylist. He/she can assess your hair and suggest a plan of action while it grows back. As it grows, he/she may be able to shape it by trimming so that it looks better and has the best chance of returning to the hair that you had. They also have a great line of products that may help with appearance and overall condition. Yes, I do have curly hair!

The cuticle layers of my hair were removed as well as a lot underneath. I went to the doctor and my scalp is irritated and inflamed. Anyone experience irritated scalp from this ?

What products were used on your hair? It sounds like whatever was used was way too strong. You shouldn’t have an inflamed scalp for three months afterward. Have you gone to a dermatologist to see about getting something to heal your scalp?

Sounds more like her hair was butchered and probably one of the facets of her appearance that helped her have more confidence about herself and you're being pretty dismissive of her angst.

Sometimes, it's more important when you're 40 rather than 17.

Just because others have lost hair thru chemo (and I know plenty myself including family members) doesn't make her pain any less bearable.

A friend of mine is about to have both of her feet removed. Should she be told, hey.. some people lost their legs and they would be glad to only have their feet removed?

Yes, hair will grow back (if there hasn't been some other damage) but she'll likely not at this age get back what she worked years to have. It can be mortifying. Hair might not be your achilles heel, but something else may be that might not affect the OP the way it does you.
