HI all -
It's time for me to cover my roots and grey hairs again. The problem I have is that no matter what color I've used at home or paid $$ to have my hair colored, it always turns reddish brown. Emphasis on the red. I have medium to dark brown hair at the roots. I'd just like something that doesn't turn red. I'm at a lost at what to buy at the store. Any suggestions?

You combat the red with ash tones. Nothing "warm", "gold" just ash.

If you use a professional color mixed with peroxide, you can buy a "drabber" to put in there to work on the red, too. But the ash should be enough.

try using a sun screen spray outside too. AND change your shampoo to "No POO" or "LOW POO" it is a soap free shampoo that wont wash the color out so fast. They have a NO POO moisturizing "cleanser" that I use too instead of shampoo (before I moved to Florida where it's so hot)

I always like Loreal Color Vive shampoos for colors.

There are those "brown" tinted shampoos for hair colors now too.
I like John Fredias - thats the only one I can speak for. But Pantene makes them and a natural brand called "jason" also makes them.

Also there is the option of doing a "glaze". John Frieda again.
I used the brown on my naturally red/brown hair and it went chocolate after two glazes and the shampoo use.

Tell the lady at the salon your hair goes red and that you need a toner on your hair.
Another option would be to ask how many colors she uses and what they are.
You colorist should be using at least 2-3 colors. It really make a huge difference in overall look and can avoid "all over" orange but only putting a few warm color streaks here and there. That way the "ash" colors wont wash you out either.

Default Re: Problem with hair color

My hair ALWAYS flips out on the right side but not the left. It's really annoying, because I'll fix them even then when they're completely dry the right side will always flip out. What causes this, and what can I do about it?
