Went for a color & cut on Saturday. My hairdresser has now delegated some of the process to others...ok shampoo girl that's fine but now she also has someone else pull the clor through my hair and then yet another to finish up the blow drying & flat iron....I'm paying good money and don't appreciate the fact I now have to tip 3 people

Anyone else run into this and how do you handle it

I fail to see how "tipping" is obligatory. Since you pay highly for the service, why is it necessary to tip everyone involved? Since it's your hairdresser who is delegating, I would leave it to her to tip all others out of HER tips. Seems fair. You're not who wants so many with their fingers in your hair.

I agree with NoExcuses. One tip for me. If they want to delegate their work, then they get to divide their tips.

But for me....when my "stylist" can't be botherd to do the actual work with color.....a big part of getting it right is placement, size of the chunks, etc.....then I will look for another stylist.

I think a lot of stylists have a tipping jar in their area - so yeah, put the money in it and let her delegate it at the end of the day.

What's the point of going to a particular stylist if someone else does all the work? I'd have a talk with that stylist - in the future either you do the color yourself or I'll find a stylist who will. Professional color is not cheap, and it sounds like you were paying for a pro and getting an assistant instead.

Well she put the color on my roots then the assistant pulled it through my hair after 20 minutes. The bill for color & cut was $70.00 but after tipping 3 people it came to $100.00

I think when I go out to restaurants you have the waitress, the bartender who makes your drinks, the bus boy or girl yet I leave only 1 tip, granted I leave more knowing the waitress has to tip her help and I think from now on I will apply this to the hair salon, which is the consenus I get from the replies

Thanks All

Why don't you ask them. Sometimes they may provide envelopes for everybody.

Hmm...sounds like she is training or overbooking. Either way the customer is not comfortable and put out. I really would not worry about it. I think to do that is poor customer service on her part.

Thanks....I just wanted opinions as I have appointment on 04/02 for Japanese straightening which is very expensive, but she's good at it and does several of them a month, this passing you off to others for some of the service is a new thing

I would not let anyone do a pass off on my hair when it comes to perms or color. No way..Too easy to mess that up. I would address that way before the appt so that she knows and can arrange her day to fit you.
