Hi, my son is in occupational therapy and can really benefit from using a merry-go-round. Does anyone know of a park in HR that has one? Thanks!

A big electric one like at theme parks or a small manual one like at city parks?

The only big one around is in Hampton by the Air and Space Museum and I'm not sure about little ones, I imagine they're in parks around here.

If you are looking for a childs merry go round at a playground/park then go to Fantasy Farm park/playground in Newport News. It is the only playground I can recall that has the old fashioned push, jump on and hang on tight merry go round. Most parks do not have them anymore.

By the way, the rest of the playground at Fantasy Farms park is pretty awesome as well.

I mean the small metal merry go rounds that are self-propelled, not the carousels with horses. Thanks for the info on Fantasy Farms! Hopefully someone knows of a Southside merry go round too.

There is another park in Newport News, called Deer Park. It is off of Jefferson Blvd. and J. Clyde Morris Blvd. The playground is accesable to children with Dissabilities. They have a piece of play equpment, not sure what it is called, it is round, and open in the center. The surface of the play equipment is textured, and the whole thing is tilted at an angle and it rotates. Children can climb onto the thing and walk along its surface. The thing will slowly rotate as the child walks up or down the 'slant'. Kids find a dozen other ways to play on this thing as well. Sitting, laying, etc. as someone else pushes the thing around. There are other pieces of equipment to encourage interactive play such as a big sand pit area with a giant 'funnel' that kids can fill up and empty out.
It's a park worth checking out if you're ever on the Peninsula.

PS: You might call the different city parks and rec departments departments (Easy to find the numbers if you google the city name and parks and rec) and ask them if any of their parks/playgrounds have the old fashioned merry go rounds. Many places have taken them out for safety reasons, so they should know if they have them or not.
