My job will be in Newport News near the "bottom" of NN (between 664 and Mercury). Moving there soon from out of state and need to find a house to rent. 4 bed/2 ba for around $2000. Is it possible to live right across the 664 bridge? Or is the commute bad? I don't want to live too far from work, but need to be in a very good neighborhood/school district because I have 3 kids.

No you can get a really nice house for less than that in Suffolk, and take the M&M. You'll be fine.
