We are moving to virginia beach soon, could someone tell me the best place to get ice cream that has a play area if possible. Want something that you can get to eat outside and not to have to go in but that would be ok also

There are outdoor ice cream shops like Brewsters on the Blvd and Dairy Queens all over the place.

I like Brewsters myself. Eat some ice cream then walk over to Krispy Kreme for a doughnut.

I enjoy Bruster's Ice Cream the best. There are several locations. There is also Carvel, Handel's Ice Cream, Kohr Brothers Custard and of course Dairy Queen.

Try the skinny dip...I been to the one in Ghent in Norfolk and there are like 3 or 4 in Va Beach. I seen one in the shopping center in Va Beach off Laskin Road...the same one Trader Joes in.

Unfortunately, I can't think of any ice cream places that have "play areas" if we're talking McDonald's style. I assure you they are all family-friendly though. Here are some places people forgot to mention:

Handel's Ice Cream
2400 Elson Green Avenue
Virginia Beach, VA
(This is in the same shopping center at the Wal-Mart of off Nimmo parkway, but closer to the Target. The lines get pretty long in the summer, but I think it's tolerable.)

Norfolk Ice Cream Company
4306 Monarch Way
Norfolk, VA 23508
(This is in the ODU village, so parking might be a bit of a hassle. Sundays are great to park in this area since the meters don't run. I believe they stay open until 10:30 on Fridays and Saturdays, and apparently later if sports events run late.)

There's a High's Ice Cream parlor in Portsmouth, but I haven't visited it yet. It used to be an old time-y chain, and it's the only one still standing in the mid-Atlantic area.

Seeing as how Skinny Dip was mentioned, you should check out these two places if frozen yogurt happens to be your thing:

Yo Mama Froyo
4540 Princess Anne Rd # 110
Virginia Beach, VA
(Not as extensive of a flavor selection as Skinny Dip, but there's a more Asian-friendly vibe to it in regards to having flavors like Taro, Sweet Red Bean, and Green Tea. They also have a row of multi flavored mini mochi pieces as a topping. Usually the first place I visit if I want frozen yogurt. There's actually a "little kid" table here and board games.)

Tutti Frutti Yogurt
3809 Princess Anne Rd Suite 114
Virginia Beach, VA
(I actually just noticed this place a few weeks ago and just like Yo Mama Froyo, they only have one location. It's probably second favorite yogurt place in the area. One peculiar thing they have as a topping is streusel, which goes with the apple pie flavor if they happen to have it that day. )

Also Rick's Frozen Custard on Airline Blvd in Portsmouth. Has outdoor tables and a swing under a front canopy.
