I'm looking to relocate to this area from ny to be close to my family. I have a son so I am looking for the place with the better schools and that's safer to raise a family.Which is a better place to live?

VB has a lower crime rate and better rated schools than Norfolk. I typically recommend VB for families and Norfolk more for young professionals or singles.

Not really any good high schools in Norfolk besides maybe Maury. There are only a few places I'd want to live in Norfolk because of flood zones and higher crime areas. Look into Chesapeake before you even think about Norfolk.

I'm looking to buy in Norfolk. I found a perfect home on corner of Bapaume Ave and Shoop Ave. Anyone have any input on this area such as safety? It seems to be a decent neighborhood.

That's over in Fairmont Park, which is a pretty typical Norfolk neighborhood: decent mix of ethnicities, mostly working class, relatively dense. It seems like most of the crime in Fairmont Park is on the other side (northern side) of Lafayette Blvd from where your house is. On your side, the most common crime looks like vehicle break-ins. Of course, you're not far from Lindenwood, Huntersville, Barraud Park, and Bruce's Park which all have pretty bad reputations and see more crime than Fairmont Park. I'd live in Fairmont Park, but I'd live just about anywhere in Norfolk.
