Hi there. We are a military family moving from WA in the next few months. We are seriously considering building a Stephen Alexander home in Summer Park in Chesapeake. Does anyone have any great info on this area? Schools (we have a 6 year old), commute to Naval Base Norfolk, etc? Do you think this area could command a rent of $2100 if we had to rent out the home in a few years? Are these homes holding their value? Is this a desirable area?

Thanks for all your help!

I live down the road a bit from Summer Park but have friends in there. The schools would be Grassfield Elementary (we were happy there), Hugo Owens Middle (I have one child there now and no problems), and Grassfield HS (great school).

The only thing with Summer Park, is the developers didn't buy up all the property and tear down any old homes and build all new. There are still some old and beat up looking places scattered in the new homes..... so there are some kind of sketchy homes mixed in with the nice new ones.

There are homes in my neighborhood up for sale that will hold their value a bit better, since they are brick and it is a nicely maintained subdivision.

I am not sure what your price range is but here are some nice ones,

We are hoping to stay under $450K. Just out of curiosity, is that boat ramp open to the public (we have a boat) or is it community access only?
