Hoping for some quick responses!

I need to do some shopping in Newport News on Sunday and need to bring my eight year old daughter. Shopping is not her favorite activity and I was wondering if there are any fun things we could do that don't take all day. Restaurants are fine as long they don't have a giant rat as a mascot.

Thanks!!!

The Virginia Living Museum is GREAT!!! We bought a year membership there because we love going so much. There is alot to see and do but yet you can go through it rather quickly if you choose to do so. Walking through City Center, maybe to get ice cream or something might be a nice walk too.

If she is into animals:

Right across the street from the Living Museaum is the Peninsual SPCA which has a zoo/sancuary/petting zoo. Entrance is a small donation. ( Alas, not open on Sundays, but maybe another time. )

Right off of I-64 near the Power Plant is Bluebird Gap Farm, a Hampton City -run park. A working farm, it is loads of fun for kids with programs, playground & picnic area. If it's warm, why not grab a sandwich & takewith? A great way to let your little girl expend some energy.

Or nature:
Right off of I-64 at Hampton Roads Center Pkwy is Sandy Bottom Nature Park with inside displays as well as a pleasant nature trail (on the short side) around the lake.

Ride the Carousel in Downtown Hampton for $1, if you have more time, (and want to expand her scientific nature) visit the adjacent Virginia Air & Space Museum which currently has a cool exhibit all about candy. There is also a cafe in there- downtown Hampton doesn't have too many great places to eat for kids. You can get a nice pub food /sandwiches at Taphouse on Queens Way, if you like that or there is a Burger King down the street towards Hampton U. - From there, you can get right on to go to the tunnel- you didn't say where you were coming from.
