The last time I looked for a rental (condo/townhouse/sfh), I was living in DC and a real estate agent showed me a bunch of places until I found "the one." Been in Norfolk for a little over a year and am now looking to rent my own place. Sure I can Google/Zillow/Craigslist, but was wondering if real estate agents in this area show rental properties?

My emails to a couple agents have gone unanswered, so I'm starting to wonder if they don't show rentals in this area. Just trying to make sure I'm going about my search the right way. Thanks.

A lot of real estate agents don't show a bunch of rentals, because the incentive just isn't there in this area. Your best bet is to just pick a list of properties you like and call the property manager agent.

It is an unfortunate fact that many Realtors do not want to bother with rentals as there is little money in finder fees for showing rentals. Realtors have access to those rental properties listed in the local Multiple ListingService. Other properties rented by owners or a management Company may or may not list in our MLS.
If you would like to DM with what you are looking for such as number of bedrooms, baths, price range, location, if you have pets when you need the property and an email address, I will send what is available to you. Will not be able to get back to you until Monday as I will be out of town....but happy to try and help if I can.

When we were considering renting, I just contacted agents for properties I wanted to see on Zillow. Some of them offered to help us out with our search when we met to tour the property I'd inquired about. Of course, we also mentioned we would be renting just for a year or two, then buying, so they knew there was the potential for a future sale.

Oh, you might also add militarybyowner.com to your list of sites to check. And, honestly, I'd check out the local Facebook groups as well. I belong to some online yard sale Facebook groups and see people posting rental listings relatively often, and someone always points out that there are other groups specifically for that purpose.
