Hi folks!

I'm from NWPA and have been very interested in the Hampton Roads area, specifically the Virginia Beach Town Center development.

After looking at several images and even looking at it on google Maps, I'm trying to figure out how it will expand.

There are existing retail developments to the north, east and west as well as residential developments to the south.

Are there future plans to develop on these areas?

Yes. The Town Center developer has started buying up the areas around it. They're hoping that eventually other people will start following suit.

Exactly. Armada Hoffler recently bought Columbus Village which borders Town Center on the east. I would expect Hoffler to eventually redevelop this entire area probably building more high rises with ground level retail. Personally, I hope Barnes and Noble would be included as well as a much larger theater to replace the current Regal. This whole area has really begin to develop quickly. I also expect to hear an announcement of Wegmans coming to the area about a block west of Town Center.

What area do you expect the Wegman's to occupy exactly?

Interesting! I always thought they were saving that area for something bigger. I'm surprised they'd put a new grocery store there with a Walmart next door and the new Fresh Market across the street. Heck I remember when there used to be that Hannaford(later Kroger) in that area years ago.

Wegman's has expressed interest in the Patrick Henery area of NN. They already purchased the property.

NC.. snap, I haven't thought of Hannaford in years.
I remember when they came in to Hampton Roads back in the mid 90s. But I don't think they were ever in that Town Center/Office Max strip mall. Weren't they further up at Princess Anne Plaza (?) Honestly, it's hard for me to remember now..

ps.. speaking of Town Center and old hardware stores. Anyone remember when the Town Center Barnes & Noble building was a Hechinger hardware (circa late 80s).

I used to shop at that Hannaford store. It was located across the street (east) from the old HQ building. It's now just an empty parcel of land.

Hechinger was still there in the early 90s. I was born in late 1989 and still remember going there a bit.

At the time that old HQ building was a hardware chain called Builders Square.
