Fiancee' and I are looking at jobs in the area. Looking at hourly rates for jobs in our fields are combined yearly income would be about $80K to $100K. Would that be enough to live in the Norfolk area? Appreciate the feedback.

Yes, that would be enough.

Do you have jobs lined up that will get you to that income level?

That's plenty.

Make sure you have a job lined up before moving. Good jobs are scarce. Most people in the area work for the government in some capacity(contractors, military, shipyards, city, etc).

The majority of the rest work service industry jobs.

You might want to do your research first. COL to wage ratio here is pretty dismal. Housing and rents are expensive due to the large amount of military getting their housing allowance and wages are typically low due to "double dippers"(retired military that return to work).

There's Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and Air Force bases all within an hours driving distance to Norfolk.

Plus there are the military dependents who help to drive down wages.

Good luck!

Can I ask what hourly job you have that pays that much?

No kids? You'll be fine. I make a bit more than that, but we have 2 kids and a relatively large SFH in Virginia Beach. Without kids, and with a smaller home (no need for 5 bedrooms), the amount you stated will definitely be doable.

Oh yes, definitely, lol. No problems there. Norfolk has something for everyone, real estate as cheap as $9,000 all the way up to $4 million. Probably higher and cheaper than that this is just what I could find on Trulia.
