I live in the Larchmont area of Norfolk and we had a great turnout. Probably around 65-75 kids from 6-830.

Ive never heard of trick or treating during the day.....I always though it started at dusk.

Any how, last year I got a bunch of candy for kids, I got 3 trick or treaters. I didnt bother this year. Candy is too expensive, and there arent even kids to give it to.

The last few years living here, I have seen very little activity. At best a dozen or so kids. Yesterday being Saturday, I figured it would be a big turnout. So I made sure we had plenty of candy on hand. During the day I saw no one trick or treating. After dark it picked up. All day we say exactly 2 trick or treaters.

I looked up on line & actually found ordinances limiting kids to under 12 & 8pm.

Has it always been like this here?
Yes Trick or Treating in Hampton Roads has always been on Oct 31st and has always been from 6 (dusk) to 8 pm for kids 12 and under

There are plenty of kids in my neighborhood, but no, the activity was kind of slow.

I remember being a kid and staying out for hours, unsupervised, just running around with friends.

The times have changed and now all the kids seem to be escorted by an adult and inside before 9pm.

I guess thats a good thing, but in a way, its sort of a shame.

Trick or treating is strange here in HR. Some years we get a fantastic turnout, tons of kids all over the neighborhood, then the next year it might be like a ghost town (no pun intended) with only a few trick or treaters out and about. And it doesnt matter if its a weeknight or weekend. It's just random. This year we skipped it all and went to Disney.

I use to live in Williamsburg and I was shocked the first year that I moved there. I thought for sure that Colonial Williamsburg would do something...nope! Then a few years later we realized that Busch Gardens had Hallow-Scream but they are only opened on the weekends and on Halloween they don't pass out candy or anything. It's actually sad. One year the Outlets in Wsmbrg had a radio station come out and do this huge promotion and it was great! Several of the stores passed out candy but the following year, the radio station did not come back out so only a few stores handed out candy and it was a total bust!
There should be more activities for kids in HR! It's such a wonderful area and there are so many resources there. Maybe things will get better over time.
