Local developer is ready to invest in center city Harrisburg | - PennLive.com

Remember that apartment building at Second & State that was demolished about a year ago? It was cleared to make way for a vaguely-controversial 13-story hotel. Those plans were scrapped, and the lot has been vacant ever since. According to this article in today's Patriot, WCI is pressing forward with plans to build a 5-story midrise with retail / office space on the ground floor. The article doesn't specify, but above will most likely be office space.

It would be nice to see another restaurant or bar (bring back Smalls!) brought in to help anchor the north end of restaurant row. I've always considered Firehouse to be the northern tip, and this location would be really close the gap between Egypt / The Quarter and Firehouse.

I still think State street is a great place for condos/residential. Who wouldn't want to have that address and view? This is great news for that corner, however. I think five stories is a completely appropriate height for that intersection compared to the neighboring buildings. I'm really anxious to see the rendering, I hope it doesn't look to fake historic.

Article: "the first downtown construction proposal to hit the planning boards in the post-recession era."

Harrisburg construction arrives on time. The big economic news this week is the national rebound of the construction industry.

"The drills, saws and sanders that fell silent during the economic slowdown are beginning to whir again. For the first time in years, U.S. builders are hiring laborers.
The nation's construction industry added 14,000 jobs nationwide in April, according to the Labor Department, marking the first back-to-back monthly gains in that sector since 2006." - La Times
