ok. think I got this: need info please:need good school for ele.aged child, noncrowded(if possible)beach for longboard(usually boogie tho-hey I'm old and rickety)have fixed income bout 2.5/mo_gonna rent first-any suggestions on good elem. school, area-kid friendly i guess? not moving to HI is not an option, so I am in no rush.thanx

Pick the beach you like and check the schools nearby, it will be harder to find the beach than the school, more than likely. If you can find it on an outer island the costs will probably be lower although most outer islands require the use of a car so that's an added expense. On Oahu, can you take a boogie board on The Bus? However, that fixed income on Oahu would be difficult unless it could be augmented somehow. It's enough for one, but it's really tight for two.
