The 6.7 earthquake was centered just off the Big Island but affected all islands. There was damage on the Big Island, Maui & Oahu. We had no electricity on Oahu for about 15 hours after the earthquake. Electricity was out on the Big Island & Maui also.

If you move to Hawaii from California you won't even notice the earthquakes.

Not entirely. That 6.7 quake was the longest I'd ever experienced, and we grew up in the California Bay Area. Plus in CA we didn't worry about tsunami as a byproduct of the quakes.

Since moving here we've had that BI quake, no tsunami but it did reveal that many of the warning sirens would not work without electricity. They have since been retrofitted with solar powered batteries. Then the Chile and Japan quakes, while not centered around HI, affected us greatly.

That 6.7 quake damaged a bridge that was the only way to get from backside of Hana to the rest of the island - leaving only one route, the one the visitors all take. It's an example of how there are fewer routes, often only one main road going to places. So while in CA you can take an alternate route if there's damage, here you can't. You just can't get out or over to somewhere else.
