I cannot speak for Oahu, but in Hilo condos aren't that expensive to own (I'm from CA though where I could never afford to own a home on 1 income) however HOA are insanely high IMO! I looked at a studio which wanted $400 in HOA, and a 2b2b which wanted $900.

The only thing I would be looking to buy is a condo of one bedroom or a loft in the main island.
I might be getting a job there so I'm trying to get as much info as possible.

It always amazes me when I hear of 'young travelers' relatively fresh from university, commanding such high salaries (or in my opinion, high salaries).
LOL exactly. I am into looking into real estate (not anytime soon!) and 2b2b over 1000 square foot was $900 in a nice building. In another building (not so nice and very run down), a studio went for $300-$400 (I think closer to $400) though a month.
