Hi I am in the Navy and thinking of transferring to Hawaii. Right now I am stationed in WA where it is cold and rainy most of the year so I would like to go to somewhere sunny. I am 25 and single. I enjoy the beaches and riding my motorcycle. I am an E-5 so I make roughly 50K a year. Well probably a bit more if I was in Hawaii since my houseing allowance would go up. Is Hawaiia good place for a single male to move to? I would be interested in getting to know alot of new people around my age. Do people get island fever here? I have visited Peral Harbor on port calls and have enjoyed it.

Aloha,
My best friend from HS and my nephew are both in the Navy and have both been stationed in Hawaii.
You would be an absolute fool to not take advantage of the opportunity even if just for awhile.
Keep a good attitude, don't go bar hopping alone late at night and show respect to locals.
Same as anywhere in the world
Aloha

Yes I posted in the Jacksonville section to lol.

I have made port visits here and really enjoyed it. Do people here get island fever though? My top 2 are San Diego and Hawaii with Florida thrown in as a backup. I like the weather and atmosphere of Hawaii but also like the fact that San Diego also has nice weather and can drive to alot of different places within a few hours.

I dont party and drink as much as most single sailors my age but still enjoy going out with friends to enjoy the nightlife occasionally. What percentage of people in Hawaii at a given time are tourists?

You'll see alot of tourists downtown in areas like waikiki and at first I thought they were a nusiance, but now I just smile at them and take their pictures.....

I have never gotten island fever ever here in our 12 years.....but we've been fortunate to take trips to the other islands (which I believe everyone should do) to enjoy the state.....maui is gorgeous! it's probably my favorite....we love the big island and volcano national park as well and kauai is well a different world.

the weather cannot be beat.....it just can't........in fact this afternoon we just went to waimanalo beach park for a wedding and I found myself marvelling at how gorgeous it is all the time.....I'm going to miss that when I move.
