Most of the boost in tourism can probably be attributed to tourists from China...

How much of those tourism dollars end up in the hands of people working here, vs investors and executives on the mainland and other countries?

dont know quite how to answer that but if you watch the news they say that XXXbillion dollars was put into the local economy in XXX amount of time by tourists. I tend to think alot of money is pumped into the local economy, and lining the pockets of a certain group of people. According to the news with all that money pouring into our economy we should be driving on golden highways instead of dodging potholes. There are several states on the mainland with alot more residents than we have here in hawaii with state budgets alot less than what they say we take in here and they are in a whole lot better shape than we are here in Hawaii. But thats just my thoughts on the subject.

Even before Japan was hit by an earthquake and a tsunami, Hawaii had been struggling with a budget shortfall that seemed suffocating for a state this small: close to $1 billion over two years. Perhaps the state may issue news about the budget revenues on a positive note ? Much of the tourist dollars are returned to investors off shore and does not remain in the state.
