hi, I feel like a similar post somewhere out there on the internet, but I would like to talk to somebody directly. I am a freshman in college, attending CWU in washington, and I have wanted to move to hawaii for some time.

I have done some research about tuition costs, living costs, and other things, but my real question is, is it possible?

I plan on having 8-9 thousand saved up by summers end, I can sell my older vehicle and some other basic things to get 11 thousand or so.

I have some scholarships, totaling next year around 2500.

I have a rich employment history (working with customers for 4+ years, i was a tour guide, as well as a ski instructor)

I have a decent GPA from college, a better one from high school.

I have a friend attending Hawaii Pacific University and she loves it. We have discussed getting an apartment together and another two friends in hawaii. With an estimated cost of $800 each per month for rent and all utilities.

My reasons for wanting to come to hawaii is both to enjoy its climate, as well as the ability to study marine biology (or nursing) and I believe Hawaii has opportunities that allow good hands on experience with both.

I would like to have as little student loans as possible, im excellent at budgeting and saving money, i don't plan on having a car, but live within a 15 minute bike ride to school.

So to everybody out there, is it possible to do? I am highly motivated to make this happen.
(ps, i am farther ahead then most college students because of college credit high school classes)

Thank you all!

Well good luck! HPU is decent as well as UH. Do you have to sell your car? Consider it will cost approx $1100 to ship your car. If you decide to buy a car on island, you may pay more than that.

HPU is on the Windward side, and you not sure where you are looking to rent, but you will be dependant upon bus transportation, unless you'll have a great working relationship with your roomies.

Just something else to consider.

Thank you, I'd rather not sell my car, because I enjoy having something to drive when I'm back home visiting. And I was planning on owning a small moped/ or bicycle (something that does not require a license or insurance). We plan on renting close to kaneohe if i go to HPU.
Is there any opinion which school is better? (I've read various reviews but some more info is always good)

I've heard positives about both, so it really depends on the major and course offerings. I personally like the location of UH better, but that is not necessarily a reason to select a school.

Living in Kaneohe, attending HPU and riding a moped sounds like a good plan.

The Windward side is such a beautiful area!
