This question is for both those who already live in Hawaii, and for those who are looking to buy here. Do you have a favorite(s) "For Sale By Owner" online site? What do you like about it, what features make it your favorite? I've been looking at online sites, and I am finding wide variances in usability.

Zillow and Craigslist. Zillow has a pretty nice app and Craigslist, well is Craigslist.

I've been hitting the search hard as of late because I'm relocating to Kaua'i in June. I've found Zillow to be lacking a few details, and some homes that are listed on other sites. I like adrhi.com, it takes signing up to view the homes, but I save a search proxy so I'm updated daily on things added to the market or changing. Of course looking at local realty companies help: Hawaiilife.com, kauaireale.com, oceanic properties, prudential locations, mauirealestate.net, kauai-realty, and such.

I haven't had a whole bunch of luck finding foreclosures, or FSBO's, however. I'd love to get some more info on that, too..

Adri.com is better than Zillow in that it has more local information particularly whether a property is fee simple or lease hold. Zillow has pre foreclosures, foreclosures, FSBOs and has a nice iOS app. On an iPad the maps in Zillow work much better than maps on adri.com. I have not noticed FSBOs on adri.com which is what the OP is concerned about.

Did you find any problems with using CL? We give many warnings here about the "iffyness" of some CL listings, but were the "house/land for sale" listings more reliable? (Yes, it is important to keep safety and common sense in mind.)

I know that as a more-than-once previous "used car" poster on CL, there is sometimes an onslaught of commercial responses from various vendors offering to sale to the poster some ad space in a magazine, etc. I wonder is the poster of a "house for sale" listing on CL gets spam from realtors or for-pay-advertisting offers? I suppose probably.
