Dear friends,
I am planning to do short vacation(for 5 days) to Hawaii in mid of may. This will be my first visit to hawai. I need few suggestions before I kick off..

1: which city or Island to visit?
2: I don't drive so I will be heavily dependent on public transport or sight seeing bus...
3: since it is only 5 days just want to stick one or at max two places...

any expert comments will be helpful!!!!

Thanks
Sagii!!!

What kind of experience are you looking for?

Relax at a resort, or explore and see the sights? Like shopping, or rural beauty?

Oahu has all of that and the transportation is easy to come by. There is a "Full Island" tour that goes all around the Island. You could stay in Waikiki for the busy beaches and shopping, or on the North Shore for the more country type environment.

For 5 days, I personally would not chose more than 1 island. I would also schedule time with no agenda in it.

For relying on public transportation, your options are Oahu and Oahu.

You won't see all of Oahu in 5 days, so you can keep yourself plenty busy.

This is one of the only rare times I would put O'ahu first on my list for someone to visit. (It's usually last, sorry O'ahu, no offence, I still love you!)

Without really knowing what type of experience you are looking for though, it's hard to give any concrete suggestion based on anything beyond "i don't drive". You can have entirely opposite experiences in Hawai'i as far as chill or adventure and everything in between, so any trip can be tailored, but not having normal transportation will limit you.

I would agree with the idea of NOT doing more than 1 island with only 5 days.

Yes Oahu is your choice if you are dependent on public transportation. But before we can tell you our picks of what to visit, we need to know what you like to do. Do you like city, or country, lots of people or isolation? Oahu has a nice big city, Honolulu and has great beaches and hikes all around the island. Take a "Circle Island Tour" the first day then you can pick what areas interest you and go back.

I've mentioned this before - if you want travel ideas - best to go to a travel site that specializes in well, travel - like www.fodors.com and www.lonelyplanet.com or others - and if you have specific questions from your research - then ask away - but this isn't a travel site.

Check the Pleasant Holidays Website for a pkg. that includes hotel and airport transfers (and Air, if you need it). If you are a member, Costco Travel is even better. Expedia & Gate 1 Travel are also good.
If you like nightlife, Oahu is IMHO the best choice. If you prefer outdoor activities, all of them have good things to offer. You probably should research the various islands and decide which would be the best fit for you. Good luck!
