My favorite on the Big Island is Makalawena. Usually deserted and the nearly white sand is like sinking into powder. However, it is pretty hard to find and entails about a 20 minute walk to get to.

Lanikai Beach. My favorite beach. Most beautiful in the world, IMO.

Google is your friend. Just type in any of the beaches that people recommend here and you can find all sorts of information, including directions.

Oftentimes the "best beach" (lots of sand) isn't quiet at all because so many people like it! The best beaches to me are the most secluded such as Makalawena - by far my favorite beach on Hawaii Island. I also love the little beach behind the marina at Honokohau Harbor.

"Best beach" could also mean a beach that is a safe swimming beach, with lifeguards. For someone not used to the ocean, or for someone who is new to a beach, "best" needs to have considerations for safety.
