Oh Lord please tell me this isn't so!! Have y'all been apprised of this? These two "free spirits" are traveling to Pahoa to give birth in the water with dolphins. The Charlotte Observer story makes them sound so one with nature.... (translation, Big Island, Y'all got more welfare recipients headed your way...)

On the other hand, an articulate ocean science expert debunks the whole shebang in a Discover Article.

Most of the comments are right on, some are downright funny....

What boggles the mind is the over-arching sentiment that just because dolphins were created with a goofy grin on their mugs -- they must be fun-loving and human-loving creatures. As the Discover author so clearly articulates -- not so fast, sparky!

Love the first comments from the guy in Pahoa...

The institute pushing this is trying to create the "dolphinization of the planet" -- puhleeeeeeze

Sounds like somebody is starved for attention.

The couple traveled over 4,500 miles in the hopes of welcoming baby Bodhi into the world during a dolphin-assisted birth in Pohoa, Hawaii.

Heading to Hawaii for dolphin-assisted birth
That's just ridiculous. Everyone knows that dolphins are not allowed in the swimming pool at Pahoa.

"But hey, i look forward to sharing the aloha with more unemployed, flaky, new-age Drain-bows with extra mouths to feed."

"To help fund their Hawaii adventure, Heather Barringer worked at the Smelly Cat Coffehouse".

Pure comedy gold in that article.

This whole thing is pretty strange, even for Pahoa.

It would be more comfortable if they could get someone to fund them to swim with the Hilton's dolphins. And those are dolphins that are accessible at least, well, accessible with enough money.

What's with the midwife being at Akaka Falls?

Here's a video of the couple talking about what they hope and expect:
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/201...lks-about.html

There is an interesting comment in there where she says she's not going to see a doctor or any other pre-natal care until after they get to Hawaii. Something about the baby already knowing what to do or something.

Is this dolphin thing supposed to be in the open ocean? What about sharks - wouldn't all the blood attract them??

It probably does but why bother with sharks, what do dolphins eat? They are primarily carnivores.

These people will probably be part of this year's Darwin Award list, having provided the sharks and dolphins with food (ie. themselves). We should thank them for removing themselves from the gene pool.

I hope to god there is a social worker and a police officer standing by to remove that infant from her the minute it's born. What a crock.
