Interesting....

"The average $116 discount Hawaii consumers receive for buying car and home insurance from the same company is the lowest in the nation, according to insuranceQuotes.com."

I get those fake promises all the time in the mail. Concentrate all your insurance needs on one broker, and you might pay less. A tiny weeny bit.

That's it.

The offset, it seems to me, is that one of the most consistent comments people make here is that their auto insurance costs less in Hawai'i than it did "back home" in wherever.

Home insurance here is a nightmare. Lava zones, hurricane zones, tsunami zones, coverage for homes with no municipal water, I'm surprised we get any discounts at all. Many people I know have regular home hazard insurance through the company that bundles their car insurance, and then a different company for hurricane and/or earthquake or flood insurance, because having two different companies cover their homes is sometimes less expensive than having one. (Many banks require hurricane or other insurance, so often times you need the coverage even if you don't want it, if you have a mortgage).

Sometimes unbundling is cheaper, hence the statistic.
