Anyone else a huge craft beer fanatic? While Whole Foods in Kailua, and the Liquor Collection in Ward Warehouse have great selections, they are quite limited in what they carry on the grand scheme of things. I'm a big fan of stouts and porters, and tried a beer called Left Hand Milk Stout, out of Left Hand brewery in CO, on a recent trip to the mainland. I'm also a big fan of Stone Brewing out of San Diego.

No one on Oahu, or the rest of the state carries these, and there are some websites that have these, and other available, BUT, the websites I've come across either do not ship here, or charge an arm and a leg ($25+ per 6-pack) to ship here. Does anyone know of any reputable websites, or stores on the mainland that will ship here for a reasonable price? I know Maui Brewing recently partnered with Stone to found a distribution company here, and so we will be seeing a wider variety of craft brews in the near future, but who knows how long that will take to get going...

Ask the liquor store to special order some of the Stout for you. If that doesn't work, contact the brewery directly, I'm sure they would like the additional exposure. If that fails,

Brewed my own beer here on Maui for years. Made some brews that would actually end up being shipped to family and friends on the mainland. It was that good.

Aloha

One of the reasons a lot of places won't ship alcohol directly to you in Hawaii is the shipper needs a special permit from Hawaii to do so - most don't find the hassle of doing it worth it.

I've talked with the guys at the Liquor Collection, and they can not get ahold of many of the Midwest or East Coast breweries' beer, I assume it has to do with distribution/shipping costs and regulations, and am hoping it'd be easier/cheaper for an individual, such as myself.

I'm a home brewer too! Gotta upgrade my equipment though, but it's so satisfying to drink a beer you've made.

Here's a good resource for anyone interested in craft beers in Hawai'i...

Beer In Hawaii | Your Guide to Craft Beer in Hawaii

For your consideration... Mehana Brewery in Hilo has Hawaiian Crow Porter in cans now, and Big Island Brewhaus in Waimea/Kamuela has IRIE IRISH STOUT and WHITE MOUNTAIN PORTER. So far Brewhaus's bottlings are only available on the Big Island, but who knows what's next?

Perfect, I'm going to the Big Island this weekend I've had Crow Porter, it's pretty good, but I'll make sure I stop by the Brewhaus

Come to think of it.. I think i've seen White Mountain Porter at Safeway...?

Maybe so. It's made with White Mountain coffee from Hamakua. Pretty tasty.

Mehana Brewery also produces beer under the Aloha Nui brand. If you happen to see that, it's the same stuff.

Okolemaluna!

Seriously miss my PNW craft beer. I'm a big fan of Stone's stuff too--first I've heard of the alliance. Love the ruination IPA. No ETA on when we'll start seeing their beers?
