There are numerous IT related jobs that will let you work remote. I worked for a mainland company for the 2 years we were in Hawaii. I'm a morning person and kept west-coast hours and was done by 3:00 PM every day. It worked out perfect and I made almost twice what I could have working for company in Hawaii. Plus I got to work at home. No Honolulu commutes.

Seems like you have a much better chance finding a job as a software or web developer working remotely

This is what I do and have Bay Area wages.

Do you have an IT degree or is it a business MIS degree? The MIS degrees pay pretty decent depending on the company. If you have a masters in that, you definitely can expect more than 45k.
