Just a quick additional thought regarding the above information...if you check the classifieds in the local paper http://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/...fieds/rentals/ you will notice that many of the rentals are advertised by local rental agencies. If you call regarding one of the advertised rentals, you will likely get an agent who can provide you with information regarding several others as well.

Some of the names of Hilo agencies: Clark Realty, Day-Lum, Jordan Property Management, among others. (This may get deleted as advertising? But do note that the classifieds include homes from all parts of the island mixed in together--that can be a bit confusing for newcomers to the island...)

Signing off for the day....so Happy New Year to all!!

Well, for emergency situations, there's alway Uncle Billys Hilo Hawaiian Lagoon Hotel, not the Ritz, but will do in a pinch while you look for something else.

I've heard from many sources that people are very reluctant to rent to anyone until they are actually on the island. Probably has to do in part with people making plans and then not showing up. Suggest that she stay in a vacation rental for a week or two while she looks around for a rental. Check out a website called Vacation Rentals by Owner.

Nope! she's not a yuppie. that's a month's rent easily in a real home, money that she needs. a couple of days at Uncle Billy's is a better option. they're not kids. They are almost 40 and her credit is pristine. wish mine was as good

Eh, Uncle Billys Hilo Hawaiian Lagoon can be a lot of fun!!!!!!!! Used to put my construction guys up there on a regular basis, soon learned to make them use their own, and not my, credit card for the restaurant and bar. I prefer the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel myself, right up from Billys, great breakfast buffet and not all that expensive, on the bay.

Aloha and okolemaluna

Aloha Jungjohann, yeah, I thought about Uncle Billy's myself when we visit. Not that we'd be running a big bar tab Probably have to bring in a supply of kosher MRE's too. Yes they have them. I don't know how they taste however and I'd be leery but...can't do pig or crustaceans
Hey, you need a skilled carpenter???? My s-i-l is very talented, sober and honest. They leave on Wed. with a stop in Oakland to see s-i-l's daughter. If you're interested, pm me.
