Looking to book our next staycation. Please share your kamaaina rate/discount tips here.

I've looked on Yelp and other travel sites but, people don't usually mention kamaaina discount and if they do, info is outdated.

Last staycation two weeks in Kauai over Christmas. We didn't book with a kamaaina rate, having booked through the condo owner. I have a friend said that even the St. Regis has discounted rates. We also availed of Smith's Luau local rates which is half price of regular.

For Thanksgiving, we went to the Big Island and stayed for one week at the Mauna Lani resort in Kahala. We booked got a good deal kamaaina rate and were expecting a small room with a view of the parking lot. We actually got a nice quiet ocean view suite. (Even the front desk was surprised at our room assignment.) I guess if the resort is not at capacity, it's possible to get upgraded. I'd recommend Mauna Lani without any hesitation. We may go again next month.

Also planning a trip to Maui so, any tips here would be awesome. We can stay with ohana but, would prefer to stay in a resort or hotel.

Locally, the Star of Honolulu had a special late last year that I missed. I'd go on another dinner cruise if they had a deal.

Since nobody replied - the best way to find Kamaaina offers is usually just google. Such as "maui kamaaina hotel".

It is hard to state what is the best deal - as they are often capacity controlled and depends on the time of the year.

Often a AAA rate can be better than a Kamaaina deal at hotel so you should compare rates.
